Diane performed 'Rise Up', providing the perfect punctuation to the event’s most dramatic moment: she followed on the heels of the young Ethiopian woman named Woinshet, who triumphed over violence and discrimination and “rose up” to win the battle against her own country’s government! While Diane’s song certainly wasn’t written to be about this subject matter, its chorus was a very fitting match for the moment. Diane joined India Arie, Angelique Kidjo, Marisa Tomei, Sarah Duchess of York and others for this program that was taped for broadcast in movie theaters around the US and Canada on March 4.
